Dr Gily Lanuches ICD-10 Codes Search and Translation Tool

Dated: May 15, 2010

On October 1st 2013, health care institutions in the United States will have to transition to the new, greatly expanded ICD-10 diagnosis and procedures code classification system. Currently, the ICD-9 classification database contains 14,315 diagnosis codes and 3,838 procedure codes. The ICD-10 database has 69,101 diagnosis codes and 71,957 procedure codes. Hospitals and clinics rely heavily on these codes to get reimbursed for services they provide. The transition to ICD-10 is expected to be a difficult one.

To assist medical providers and coding specialists during this transition and afterwards, we developed a free, online ICD-10 codes search resource.

Dr Gily's ICD-10 codes search and translation tool provides a fast, accurate and user-friendly ICD-10-CM and ICD-10 PCS codes search platform. ICD-10 codes are found using a simple keyword / code number search or a more advanced natural language search, with results ordered by relevance. All searches use the popular Web 2.0 search auto-complete feature to eliminate unnecessary clicks and page reloads.

Also included is an ICD-9-CM to ICD-10-CM forward and backward conversion tool. Making use of the General Equivalence Mappings (GEMs) from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, this code translation tool is designed to help providers and coders find the appropriate code matches between the two coding systems. The code conversion tool is Ajax enabled and can is optimized to be accessible via traditional web browsers as well as smartphones or other mobile devices such as the iPad.

ICD-10-CM codes will be used to classify and bill for diagnoses and reason for visits in all health care settings in the United States. ICD-10-PCS codes will be used for inpatient (hospital) procedures. Both code sets will come into effect on October 1st 2013.

ICD10CMCode.com is a website developed by Dr Gily Ionescu, who is an Internal Medicine physician practicing in rural Washington.
